Advent | Day 25

December 25, 2015

Christmas reminds us to receive the gift

From God, who first loved us

So that we can experience salvation

Here, now and forevermore

“Mary treasured all this…” – Luke

As I receive you, Lord

Have your way in me

So I can be a blessing to many more

Advent | Day 24

December 24, 2015

Advent reminds us to make an offering…

The three wise men traveled a long journey

bearing gifts…

We may not be so clear of their significance

They may be symbolic presents that give regard

They may also be practical—for healing and also for living needs

The season reminds us

That as we take this journey to situate our hearts and feet

To go worship, to take a look, to honor or simply be there

And, to also come bearing gifts

An offering that is symbolic to the Lord and king

Or, the kind that heals and meets living needs of those whom he loves

On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. – Matthew 2:11

Lord, as I make an offering to you, may it honor and bring blessings of healing and life to the ones you love.

Advent | Day 23

December 23, 2015

2012-10-06 09.27.32

Advent reminds us to take the journey…

Three wise men set off on a long travel

To pay homage—an expression of honor, respect and worship

To the one who is born as king of the Jews

They travel in faith—not knowing where to go

Guided only by light

Yet for them, it was enough

Today, this story reminds us of our own journey

To take the invite

To travel in faith

Pay homage to the one who is born king

It may not require any steps, a road trip nor a flight

Yet it is one that is most transforming

one of faith

where the heart’s journey is the turn it takes

to let Jesus, lord over one’s life.

Guided only by light—of love and grace

“In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem” – Matthew 2:1

Take me on a journey towards you, Lord.

When Mary birthed the blessing

The heavenlies announced the good news to whom the blessing is for

Luke tells us that
Mary and Joseph make space and welcome the strangers

Who then tell all else what they have seen

Many were amazed by their news

The blessing God births through you

Will be announced to whom it is for

They will search and find you

And will announce to many what God has done through you

And many will be amazed

Make space for the stranger…

“they made known what had been told them about this child; and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them.” – Luke 2:17-18

Lord, teach me how to make space for the stranger.

Advent | Day 21

December 21, 2015

2014-12-01 11.55.39Advent bids us to make time…

The shepherds who were living in the fields
the hard-working people
who were watching their flocks that night
…faithfully devoted to their professions
day in and day out

It is to these that
the angels came to announce,
“to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.”

Their response is to make time…
to visit
to take a look
to go and see what God has done.

You work hard during these times
You may also be tired living in the fields of your profession

Day in and day out
You may have wondered when things will be better

Advent is a visit…
in the midst of busy days…
for most, in their endless hard-work

Reminding us to respond like the shepherds

“Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” – Luke 2:15

In my hectic days, in demands of responsibilities, in my set plans, may I respond like the shepherds, to stop and take time – to visit and take a look what God has done for us.

Advent | Day 20

December 20, 2015

Screenshot 2015-12-20 12.53.48Advent reminds us to make room…

God was with Mary and Joseph
that night they were to give birth

Knocking on doors
of homes
of families
of people

Today, God continues to knock
in homes
in lives
in schedule
in plans
in ambitions

Will you make room to birth God’s plan
to bless and to save

“…laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn” – Luke 2:7

In my life where there is no room, I will clear away and make room, Lord.

Advent | Day 19

December 19, 2015

Screenshot 2015-12-19 20.46.25Advent brings us to a moment

When God calls a humble woman

To join in participation

To live out a purpose

Ultimately, to make way

in her womb

in her life

to carry out the Savior for all

Her response in praise,

My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.
    Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
    and holy is his name.
His mercy is for those who fear him
    from generation to generation.
 He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
    and lifted up the lowly;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
    in remembrance of his mercy,
according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever.” – Luke 1

May we respond in the same way, Lord.
